Tips on designing the perfect kitchen layout

The kitchen. The heart and soul of the home, where family and friends gather with fresh drinks and the aroma of delicious food cooking. Stories new and old are recounted and bonds are made during holiday meals and gatherings of special occasions. The kitchen should make you feel the comfort and warmth that this room embodies. You spend plenty of time in the kitchen so make the most of the layout. Learning how to design the perfect kitchen layout will make all your culinary dreams come true, almost. Here are four kitchen layouts to consider that suit the needs of you and your family. There are several different possibilities when choosing the perfect design for the most important room in the house. To help demonstrate example layouts, we have Manor Homes - The Vineyard Series

Peninsula style kitchen

The Hunter design features a peninsula style kitchen.

With your fridge, stove, and sink all within arm's reach, the long slab of countertop like a connected island will give you plenty of prep space. This layout is great for families and those groups full of "kitchen-dwellers" that like to hang around those of us that do the real cooking. With space to move around efficiently and the long peninsula countertop this kitchen style does very well in open-plan spaces. Display a large bowl of lemons or artichokes to add a fresh flavour to your kitchen - staging always goes over well.

Island style kitchen

The McLaren design is an island style kitchen.

For an exciting layout your stove and fridge are positioned on the two kitchen walls, and the sink is in the island. This layout is fresh and stylish, check out Manor Homes version here. The island is perfect for serving appetisers or piling all those dirty dishes next to the sink to be rinsed before making their way to the dishwasher. The feature also allows mobility all the way around the island to make use of the space as much as possible. Islands also create the illusion or more space and are great for storage underneath.

U shaped style kitchen

The Yarra kitchen layout resembles the horseshoe style.

Shaped like a "U," this configuration is the perfect nook for those cooks who just like to get down to business. One cook in the kitchen is enough. You have everything you need at your fingertips. The pantry is just a few steps away for all your food storage as well. Maybe add one more cook to fuel the fire in the cosy cooking space. More than two cooks is always too many cooks in the kitchen, but it makes things interesting.

One wall style kitchen

The Barossa style layout is a one-wall kitchen.

There is one main wall and a large island that defines the other side of the space. This kitchen is not only modern, but also can accommodate the crowd. In open-plan spaces the one-wall kitchen is much more dramatic, making a stylish statement that is creative and fun. Gather the troops and ring the dinner bell: the table is ready. Sharing food in this gathering place we call a kitchen is sacred - it transcends language barriers and often bridges the gap between us. It's a special place and we want it just right. Love having people all around you while the feast is prepared? Select a kitchen that opens out to the rest of the room. If you want a nice island to liven up the space you should go for it. The kitchen was always the place to be growing up, and it still is. Kitchen stories are always the greatest. The time someone salted the ham a bit too much, or when the cranberry sauce just didn't gel.
