Building a home is a wonderful experience, and one of the key benefits of building a new home is being able to choose a floor plan that suits your needs. When looking through floor plans, here are some key things to consider. Bedrooms Are you just starting out, and looking to grow your family in future? Make sure you allow plenty of room to accommodate not only your current family but your future family too. Perhaps you may be retiring soon and wanting to downsize? One or two bedrooms may be more manageable or you may want spare bedrooms to make it easy for friends and family to come and stay. Special interest rooms Do you work from home, enjoy exercising at home, have you always dreamed of a home theatre or do you need space for your hobbies? You may want extra space for these activities, so keep these in mind when selecting your floor plan. Bathrooms How many people live in your home and how regularly you have guests will generally determine how many bathrooms you need. Many people like to have a private ensuite and a family and guest bathroom. If you have children or pets, you may want to look for bathrooms that will accommodate a bath. Entertaining Entertaining is often a large part of our lives, this is where great memories are made. Not having enough space can make it harder to entertain family and friends. An open floor plan where there is space to easily move throughout the house may be valuable if you like to entertain. Kitchen space If you have a large family, or a passion for cooking or entertaining, walk-in pantries or butlers pantry are great features in a kitchen. They provide plenty of storage space and can hide the mess away while entertaining. Outdoor living If you are one to get out and enjoy the fresh air, make sure the floor plan has a comfortable place to spend time outdoors. Whether it’s a large wrap around verandah or a small deck off the kitchen or living space to drink your morning coffee, be sure to consider how you’d like to enjoy your outside space. Laundry and mud room Many on large properties, or those with active families, children or pets may benefit from having a mudroom built into the laundry room to give you a space to take off and store your shoes, bags and coats and to avoid bringing dirt into the home. Storage Storage space is vital to keeping things organised and uncluttered in the home. Consider what storage you might need in your new home. You can add storage to your floor plan with a coat closet, large walk-in robes, linen cupboards, extra garage space, storage rooms etc.
