A look at the 5 most popular home customisations

Owning your own home is commonly referred to as the great Australian dream and every homeowner wants a home that not only matches their taste and style but one that fits their needs and lifestyle as well. More and more people are turning to modular building after learning about the many benefits this kind of build can provide.

Not only does modular building offer speed and efficiency with tightly controlled timelines and a protected building environment being built in a factory but it also offers a large range of designs and floor plans that can be customised to suit the individual’s style and lifestyle needs. It can sometimes be overwhelming when you have so much freedom and choice available, so we’ve narrowed down the most popular customisations that we’re currently seeing to provide you with some inspiration for your own home design.

Customisations, what’s available & our process

When you build with Manor Homes, you will work with our design consultant to tailor the perfect modular home for you and your lifestyle. Our design process considers light, heat and ventilation in the orientation and features of your home. You can rest easy knowing you’re supporting local; our homes are 100% Australian Made – genuinely Australian owned and operated.

You might be wondering at what stage do the customisations come in? There are two stages where you can customise your home. The first being in Stage 3 of our process called ‘Design Solution’, here we will work with you to customise your floor plan and create a design that meets your needs. The second option for customisations happens in Stage 5 of our process called Building Contract. Here is where you will meet with our Selections Consultant to choose your finishings, colour schemes, fixtures and fittings – this covers everything from kitchen surfaces, bathroom tiles, light fittings, external cladding and more. We’ll discuss any changes and additions to ensure you’re happy with the end result and making sure it’s within budget. Wondering where to start? Let’s dive into the top 5 customisations we’ve been seeing with clients.

High pitched ceilings

While raked ceilings come standard with a Manor Home, we’re seeing more and more homeowners opting for higher pitched ceilings to add space and grandeur to their homes. Having a higher pitched ceiling can elongate a room and make it feel bigger. Not only will it make the room feel bigger, but it will allow you to play around with more lighting options and will allow for more air flow throughout your home. The clean lines of high-pitched ceilings can add a serious ‘wow’ factor so why not consider adding this to your home build.

Larger windows

Windows are key to designing a naturally lit space as well as showcasing the beautiful surrounds on which your home sits. There are a few things you can do to maximise the use of your windows. A popular addition to windows is to have them double glazed where two glass panels are bonded together by a spacer and separated by a gap. Our double glazed windows can be an energy efficient addition to your home as they help to keep the heat in your home during Winter and help it stay cool in Summer. They can also be a great way to reduce any outside noise and reduce the likelihood of condensation.

Adding in light

Skylights or high windows have been very popular with our homeowners lately and are a great way to add natural light. Introducing skylights can be a cost-effective and energy efficient way of maximising light for brighter indoor spaces, they can allow more than 3 times as much light compared with a vertical window of the same size.

Taps, taps, taps!

Another popular customisation we’re seeing is in tapware, a lot of homeowners are opting out of the standard chrome tapware and looking to implement different colours and styles. Chrome tapware has been around for years now and is a great option if you’re looking for something classic and timeless. However, if you’re after something a little more bold and fun, you might consider upgrading to something like rose gold tapware or black tapware. We’ve seen a rise in homeowners selecting black tapware which gives a contemporary feel and be quite striking against lighter coloured tiles.

Bathroom tiling

An easy way to customise your home is by changing up your bathroom tiling. While it’s not a room that you spend most of your time in, it’s still worth spending time to carefully design a bathroom that makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. Half wall tiling is a typical way of tiling a bathroom, however we’ve seen a lot more homeowners opting for floor to ceiling tiling. Tiling your bathroom in this way can make a small bathroom feel bigger and can help to open up the room as well.
