The History of Manor Homes: A Trusted Builder For Over 30 Years

Written by Sample HubSpot User | 9 June 2023 4:25:24 AM
Last year Manor Homes celebrated our 30th year of operation. A lot of things have changed in 30 years. Here's what Australia looked like in 1992: one and two-cent coins dropped out of circulation, Paul Keating was the nation's Prime Minister, The Olympic Games were held in Barcelona, Microsoft released Windows 3.1, McDonald's opened their first restaurant in China and topping the charts was the hit 'Achy Breaky Heart' by Billy Ray Cyrus.

While many things have changed in 30 years, our commitment to our clients and creating quality modular homes has remained the same. What’s more,  in 30 years of operation we've gained even more experience and know-how, while staying up to date with industry trends and developments.
Take a walk with us down memory lane as we celebrate everything we’ve achieved over 30 years of Manor Homes.

Timeline

1992
Stephen and James Monks started Timberline Relocatable Homes, which would grow and evolve to become known as Manor Homes. They created this business as they wanted to work closer to home and continue to enjoy the rural lifestyle, and not to have their construction work in Sydney suburbs affected by the weather.

1994

The first small factory facility was built within the industrial estate on Tatura Ave, North Gosford. The company began manufacturing homes under the operating name Timberline Relocatable Homes.

1995
Timberline Relocatable Homes expanded to an additional site across the road from its home on Tatura Ave, North Gosford, to enable cabins (which was the company's focus at the time) to be built to lock-up in a factory that would allow them to have more control over the build process. The first display home was built in 1995

1996
The next display home was built outside at a site remote from the factory site on residential land in Vineyard. The country-style home had many features, such as a wrap-around verandah and pitched roof, that share design roots with many modern homes we create today.

1998
Having outgrown our last factory, a brand new factory facility was built on Sunny Bank Road, Lisarow, to enable us to continue expanding the business.

From humble beginnings, Pictured below is our first display home to be built at the Sunny Bank Road factory, soon after it was opened in 1998

1999
The company changed its name to Timberline Manufactured Homes and Timberline Cabins to more accurately reflect the types of homes we were building at the time.

1999
The Timberline Cabins  business unit reached a point where it made sense to sell it off to allow the family to focus their resources on the homes product. Timberline Cabins was spun off from the business and gifted to new business owners.

2000
Saw significant changes in the construction industry, the building boom brought on by the Sydney Olympics caused construction costs to skyrocket, and the introduction of the GST saw an increase of more than 10% to house prices. Throughout it, all Timberline was able to weather the storm and continue offering the high-quality homes to our clients.

2004
The family changed the name to Manor Homes to more accurately represent the brand offering. Manor Homes as the company was now known, began constructing homes from our new factory facility in Somersby.

2007
A new display home was established at East Maitland.

2008
More market instability caused by the Global Financial Crisis had a crippling effect on the Hunter Valley economy. The construction industry was once again one of the hardest hit by the crisis.

2010
Another new display home was established at Branxton

2016
Manor Homes operated out of 2 factories in Somersby and West Gosford.

2018
Manor Homes opened four new display home units at our West Gosford Factory. The new display units were able to give customers a greater understanding of the manor process and show the benefits of choosing a Manor home.

2020
The Covid 19 pandemic hit Australia, ravaging the construction industry throughout the country. Manor initiated the bush fire rebuild operation to assist those that lost their homes in the 2019 fires. Manor Homes completely moved to our current home in Lisarow. The site contains our head office, factory and current display homes.

By studying and learning from developments within the industry, we introduced steel frames to our homes. The state-of-the-art steel frame manufacturing plant that was installed enabled us to stay ahead of the curve and provide stinger homes to our clients in a fast time frame .
